Please ensure you have received the following items for this data collection:
1. A mobile phone
2. One pair of glasses
3. A USB-C cable
Start by turning on the phone and swiping to unlock. If prompted for a password, enter '1234'.
Check the phone's battery level. If it's below the minimum required percentage (30%), please take it to the charging station.
Open the 'Invisible Companion App' on the phone. You can identify the app by its icon, which looks like this:
Check the remaining storage by tapping the '(i)' icon on the top right within the 'Invisible Companion' app. If the available storage is less than the minimum required free space (20 GB), please inform one of the coordinators.
Ensure you are logged into the correct workspace. Refer to the screenshot below to confirm the name of the workspace.
Open settings from the left bottom corner and adjust exposure value according to room lighting.
You can open the preview window from the bottom right corner to check if the exposure value matches the room lighting.
From settings, toggle Cloud Upload on so recordings are uploaded automatically to the cloud after being saved.
Connect the glasses to the phone using the USB-C cable. On the app's home screen, check that the scene and eye camera icons are colored, indicating successful connection (they would appear gray if not connected).
Create a new wearer profile and name it as 'D[device number]-P[participant number].' For instance, if you're using device number 1 and collecting data from your third participant, wearer name should be 'D01-P003'.
To view a live stream of the scene video with a gaze overlay, click the 'Preview' button. In this tab, you will need to calibrate the gaze overlay for each participant. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Ask the participant to focus on a specific point on the calibration board.
b. Place your finger on the screen and adjust its position so that the red circle aligns with where the participant is looking.
c. Once aligned, apply the changes.
You can now begin recording:
Press the large red button to start the recording.
Lock the screen and give the phone to the participant to hold in their hand or place it in their pocket.
After the participant has completed their visit from the museum, unlock the phone. Press the red square to stop the recording.
Select 'Save' to save the recording.
You can monitor the upload progress of the recording in the 'Recordings' section located in the bottom left corner of the app's home page.
During the recording and saving process, you may encounter errors. Here are some common issues and steps to resolve them:
Continuous Vibration: If the phone continues to vibrate without stopping, it indicates an error in either the recording or saving process. While a few initial vibrations are normal, they should stop after a few seconds.
Blinking Red Light on Glasses: If the participant notices a blinking red light on the sides of the glasses, near the eye camera, it indicates an error in either the recording or saving process.
Possible Error Messages:
If you encounter an error message, it might be one of the following:
Sensor failure (World Camera): The world camera has stopped providing data.
Sensor failure (Inertial Measurement Unit): The Inertial Measurement Unit has stopped providing data.
Recording failure:The Pupil Invisible Companion App stopped working during the current recording.
Please follow these steps:
1. Stop the recording.
2. Unplug the USB from your Pupil Invisible Glasses.
3. Plug it back in.
If the error occurs at the beginning of the recording, discard the recording and make a new one.
If the error occurs later in the recording, save the current data and then start a new recording.
App Crash:
If the app crashes and you couldn't save the data, try restarting the phone. Here's how:
1. Press and hold the Power button (right edge) and Volume up button (left edge) until the 'Power off' prompt appears, then release.
2. Tap 'Restart'.
3. Allow up to 30 seconds for the reset to complete.
4. If your device doesn't power back on, partially charge it and then retry.
If the recording isn't uploading, please ensure that you are connected to the internet and that the cloud upload setting is turned on. If the issue persists, try logging out and then back in within the app.
The IMU on the right side of the glasses may become warm after a few minutes of recording. To ensure that the data is stored and uploaded correctly, it's recommended to keep recording sessions under 15 minutes and allow a couple of minutes in between for the device to cool down. You can also take this time to recharge the battery, as the recording process can drain it.
